Sustainability Projects

With a company name and logo based on one of the most iconic evergreens—the American Holly—it’s no coincidence that ILEX is committed to green building practices. At ILEX Woodworking, the environment in which we live and work is very important to us. That’s why over the years we’ve successfully completed many green projects, including LEED® certified projects, and have worked for some of the nation’s foremost environmental organizations.

Imagine a countertop made of wheat and sunflower seed hulls. Or workstations and conference tabletops whose cores are composed of newspaper print and soybeans. These are just some of the environmentally-friendly jobs we’ve executed at ILEX Woodworking. We’re open and experienced in the use of various green products and techniques, and we champion the fast-paced environmental developments taking place within our field.

As part of our commitment to LEED and sustainability, ILEX Woodworking is FSC Chain of Custody certified. We are certified as a manufacturer of architectural millwork whose processes support the strict tracking requirements that ensure the materials used in our products come from well-managed forests. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) maintains international standards that promote environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world’s forests.

ILEX is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council and with LEED® Green Associates on staff, ILEX is fully committed to LEED and its principles. Our staff has hundreds of combined years of woodworking experience and is proud to have worked on some of the most high profile, flagship green projects in the mid-Atlantic including the World Resource Institute and the Environmental Defense offices. This award winning sustainable design project pictured above incorporates FSC certified Cherry veneer on wheat board core for the wall and ceiling panels, reception desk, built-ins and work stations. Other sustainable projects can be reviewed in our case studies.
