The George Washington University, one of the largest universities in the nation’s capital, has opened a new facility for its School of Business. The newly-constructed Rick and Dawn Duques Hall is a six-story addition to a 1967 classroom building.
The school features state-of-the-art classrooms, team rooms, computer labs, a career center, student study and meeting lounges, an executive conference center and a 115-seat auditorium for guest lecturers and special events. The desire to achieve a modern aesthetic conducive to a collaborative learning environment led to an open layout framed by wood walls with a light stain of White Maple.
ILEX Woodworking produced and installed 8,000 square feet of maple paneling, 17,000 square feet of painted panels and high pressure decorative laminate casework. One of the most intricate aspects of the project involved a monumental two-story staircase which provides the focal point for the atrium.
The matching of the panels, in terms of stain and grain, is flawless. — Nancy Giammatteo
